Aaron O’Keefe, Shawn Steele, Joshua Cole, Morgan Asher and John Quinto are pictured here at the OMF headquarters [any local bar]. After several hours of mind mapping, goal setting and teambuilding exercises, the gang decided to move forward with 9 more videos and also induct our newest gang member, Shawn Hudgins.
Shawn, a talented photographer, videographer and drone operator from Nashville, worked 25 hours straight on the latest OMF session and stayed cool as can be. And now, as a member of the OMF gang, he can enjoy benefits such as getting to set things on fire, filming without permits and then dealing with the police, lifting 1000’s of pounds of gear, tearing ligaments in his knee, herniating a disc in his back, experiencing the effects of sleep deprivation, gourmet meals at Waffle House at 4 am and finally, helping talented young musicians from around the world realize their DREAMS!

FACT: It is illegal to cage a crow.
FACT: Felony violations of the Migratory Bird Law Treaty can have fines up to $2,000 and up to two years in jail.
A Musical Pioneer
Few musicians dare to venture into the dangerous and often illegal world of recording animal noises. Yet,imagine Patti Page’s “How Much Is That Doggie In The window” without the doggie!!!
Imagine Captain & Tennille’s “Muskrat Love” without the muskrats!!!
Now imagine “Burn” by The Cure without the mournful cawing of a crow.
Henry is a musical pioneer playing on the fringes of the recording industry…there isn’t a grammy for what he does….there isn’t even a name….perhaps the movie “Beastmaster” could serve as a starting point but even that is a far cry from the truth. In the simplest of terms, Henry is an artist who creates lush sonic landscapes with migratory bird noises.
But legally speaking, Henry is a criminal!
The U.S Fish and Wildlife Services argues that Henry is in clear violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and as such, Henry will face 2 years in prison and a fine of $2000. With this video of Henry caging a crow it will be difficult for him to argue otherwise:

But Henry is a musician and any good musician knows that the song comes first.  Not your fancy guitar solo, not your triple ratamacue drum fill and certainly not your freedom!  In an issue of Rolling Stone magazine Henry had this to say about his craft:

What The Future May Bring
With any luck Henry will only serve a portion of his 2 year prison term at the Lebanon Correctional Institution.  And with good behavior, Henry could be out in 6 to 8 months.  Yet, Henry is already making plans for his next musical masterpiece:

Behind every O’Keefe Music Foundation video is a story about a child working to the best of their ability, persevering and deciding to choose music over the millions of other distractions in their lives. The kids in the “Duality” video spent nearly a year learning their parts, practicing with the metronome and even composing new sections. Rewarding the students for all their hard work wouldn’t have been possible without the OMF crew, volunteers and Kickstarter supporters. We look forward to helping more young musicians share their music with the world!

A Pallaird Bolex camera, Auricon Cine-Voice CM-72 and 16 mm projector are just a few of the items donated. John Quinto, cinematographer extraordinaire, is hard at work getting this equipment ready for filming Tool’s “Lateralus” and Danzig’s “Let It Be Captured”. Artist Bio
After graduating from Juilliard with a bachelor’s degree in Chime Performance, Brady continued his studies at the Boston Conservatory, eventually earning a Master’s in Chime Interpretation. He quickly conquered the world of classical music and developed a reputation as a bad boy.  Brady angered many classical musicians with his unpredictable, dangerous and impulsive behavior.  He even went so far as to challenge Lang Lang, the world famous pianist, to a duel in the thunderdome.

As quickly as Brady conquered the classical world, he left it.  This gifted artist needed a new challenge and the siren song of death metal was calling. Thus, CHIME DEATH METAL was born! Brady abandoned traditional chime techniques in favor of playing the chimes with dirty shovels, sledgehammers and impact drills. He also started singing and the world became introduced to Brady the lyricist. What at first sounded like guttural screaming over and over again, quickly became recognized as timeless poetry that rivals that of T.S. Eliot, Ezra Pound and Emily Dickinson.
In 2013 Brady guest starred in a video produced by the O’Keefe Music Foundation.  Some fans accused him of selling out.  In later interviews, Brady admitted that he was having financial difficulties at the time and was taking anything he could get.  Many fans site this OMF ad campaign as an example of how far Brady’s star had fallen:


Brady’s career then experienced a resurgence as younger fans began to discover his classic songs.  “Chimes of Doom”, “Chimes:The Obliteration” and “Chimeapocalypse” have all become woven into the fabric of music history and each year teenagers discover the timeless and universal quality to Brady Miracle’s work. His exclusive interview on Channel 46 News further bolstered his career.
In 2015 the O’Keefe Music Foundation pleaded with Brady to record on their latest cover,”Sober” by Tool.  After lengthy contract negotiations it was agreed that there would be 2 versions of “Sober”–one rendition without Brady and another entitled “The Brady Miracle Super Special Sober Edition”.  One version costs a $1, the other costs $10. Why?  According to Brady (who often refers to himself in the 3rd person),

]]> Schoeney Family Donates Pump Organ https://okmusicfoundation.org/pump-organ/ Sun, 17 Aug 2014 17:50:59 +0000 https://www.okmusicfoundation.org//?p=3288 We can’t thank Mary and John Schoeney enough for donating their Eastlake pump organ to our foundation.  This beautiful instrument was built in 1885 and will be featured in the kids next Tool cover.  In some recording studios or performance halls there isn’t a piano available.  In these situations we try to avoid using digital keyboards and instead use Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzers, pump organs, etc…  These instruments can easily be transported and moved into the recording space.   Please contact our foundation if you would like to donate such an instrument.  All donations are tax deductible.
